the second procedure dont help i still get 1 long beep followed by 2 quick short ones, what is an award bios

A BIOS is a BIOS, it doesn't matter if it's a laptop or a desktop. Award BIOS is the name of the product developer, there is also Insyde, WinFlash and probably many more. HP does not produce its own specific BIOS programs, they go to a developer and get custom ones made up to suit their needs.

The only thing that I can suggest at this point is to replace the RTC battery. They are sort of pricey, some can be as much 30.00$.

Sorry, but that's all I have at this time. :Crying:

I did find this though :

It indicates a video card failure and/or video cable problem. Google is your best friend here, that's what I do to help out when I run out of my own trouble shooting ideas.

 and the same thing here.

Did a bit more digging and yours is running a Phoenix BIOS so according to this there is some sort of error with the system board, quite possibly a dead CMOS battery.

I know you're running a Phoenix BIOS because I downloaded your BIOS for your model and when I extracted the file information this is what I found.

so your telling me that i have to change the motherboard to fix the problem

HP Recommended

i will try changing the cmos battery if that dont work it's the motherboard?

or the viveo card

I am making suggestions and going by what the beep codes mean. I would start by replacing the RTC battery as it's the least expensive.

I don't know why entering the wrong pass word would lead to a mother board or video card failure. As for replacing the video card, you can't, it's soldered right on to the MoBo.

You don't have to do what I tell you, it's just advice on the information I have in this thread.

If you don't agree with my suggestions then take it to a repair shop.

could a rtc battery failure cause this type of situation?

HP Recommended

or prevent me from solving the problem?
