Hello Leonard,

This is misleading - this error is usually referring to the main battery.

Download and run the stand-alone battery test utility, and see if this reports any problems with your main battery.

If I have been helpful or if you’d like to say thanks you can click the white star under my name to give me Kudos.  I really appreciate it!

Good luck!

Dear Sir,

I am very greatful for your quick reply and I've put in the kudos for you; but I need to confirm something with

you. When the error msg showed internal battery error 601, I assumed that it was the CMos battery(Lithium button battery); but from your reply, can I say that the main battery you are refering to is the backup UPS battery? Thank you

and I would be greatful for a reply from you as and when you can.

Regards,

Leonard

I just order a battery for my computer because it the internal battery error 601 keep popping up. My laptop will not stay charge. I have a Hp G61-304NR. I was told it needed an external battery. I hope that is right.

Welcome Leonard.

Before turning on your laptop remove your main battery.

Turn on the laptop and see if the error goes away.

If you get no error then replace your main battery.

RF.

That is weird???

Can you boot and login to your OS.

If you can check to see if you are running on the battery or AC.

Let us know.

RF.

With AC connected and battery in boot the laptop and login to Windows.

There you should be able to tell if you are running on AC or battery.

P.S. What Windows are you running???" XP, Vista or Win7 "
