i/o errors are always hardware, test your hard drive and memory, the message said it could also be a hard drive, and the file it could not load was in the BCD folder which is on your hard drive.

Back up your data and prepare to replace the hard drive.

a good computer friend of mine has recommended that it might also need a complete windows 7 re-install
OR

I've got a HP G70-111EM so what is the biggest hard drive that you can get for it ? ?
the only serial number i got of the h/d was : 485036-003
so far i've had no luck in searching in the u.k for h/d's for this make of hp laptop

Any standard laptop Sata hard drive will work, any size.
You don't have to buy it from HP.
Buy it from a local electronics store with a friendly return policy just in case the drive does not work for some reason.
I like the Western Digital Scorpio Black Series.

What is your question?
You will have to remove the 3 screws, and disconnect the data cable, pull out the hard drive assembly then you will have to remove the bracket from the original hard drive and transfer it to the new one.

it may not be possible due to the laptop construction so
