Pavilion notebook 17-ab200na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When turned on, goes into automatic repair and crashes to blackscreen, and shuts itself off, can sometimes log in (it gives you an option very occasionally to skip disk checks) but either blackscreens while logging in, and when I can log in successfully, windows (the OS) crashes and it black screens. Did a HP diagnostics run and it claimed the 😧 drive failed, unknown cause. Can not run safemode, everytime I try it blackscreens and shuts down. There is no power problems at all.

The failure ID from the diagnostics scan was 94PF6W-8H78LK-MFPUQ1-613D03 and the product ID is Z9E10EA#ABU (I'll add that as I don't know if you'll need it.) It's the Hardrive 2 secondary HDD bay. I have no access to system restores, as it crashes, and we couldn't try F8 on boot as it boots too quickly and doesn't respond at all. We checked to se if the BIOS was running okay and it was, and did a diagnostic (full) on everything in the system that was an option through HP diagnostics and the only fault it has was the D drive alongside the failure ID. Windows is installed to the SSD (C: Drive not the (D:.

 Thank you!

Also we've tried transferring the contents of the 😧 drive to an external drive, but it crashes upon opening any folders

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the HP 17 laptop is stuck on automatic repair, black screens after login,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you check what the failure ID is all about?

how often does the system crash? is it when you are on a specific program or does it happen at random moments?

While you respond to that, here're a few things you should know:

The failure ID you've mentioned: 94PF6W-8H78LK-MFPUQ1-613D03

Failure Code: 304 is a hardware failure within the hard drive disk 2

HP recommends you replace the hard drive to fix the issue,
