Solved!

lost and unable to recover password for desk top.

HP Recommended

After my desk top crashed I ran the back up and restore program to get it operating again, the system is a vista windows and now on powering up I am be asked for a password.  I nevered had this request before and know I have not had to have a password to open my computer for the last eight years. I am instructed to use a password disk, that I've never had, to reset this mysterious password. Has anyone encountered this and how did you resolve this problem?

This has happened before if you used a backup disk and not the Factory REcovery media and you set a password you will encounter this problem. This is why I always advise never use a password if your sole owner and user as these situation will happen. You can look at the link below to see if they help. Otherwise you will have to take it to a shop to remove the password.

Having read some suggestions on how to retrieve my computer password I decided to run the system recovery disk on start up. This action restored the computer to before a password set up and I simply skipped the password option. I now have access again and can happily go about restroing my files. Thanks for the suggestions and assistance to solve this problem.
