I was using my chromebook the otherday but had to go to the shop. The battery charge was fine. I only live around the corner from the shop so it only took 10-15 mins for me to come back. When I did come back the screen was black, I just thought the battery had died. I put it on charge later and the light that flashes when the chromebook is on charge was not working and my screen was still black. I used the power button abd it still didn't turn on. I left it on charge over night to see if that would work but didn't. I have a lot of pictures on their that are special and so I do nit wish to lose them. How do I get it working again

Try holding the power button for ~7 seconds and see if anything happens.

This seems to be a common problem - hopefully that means that a solution won't be too hard to find!

The kids were playing on the chromebook at the screen was black so they thought it died.  We plugged it in and lights are on the sides so it is powered on.  BUT WON'T TURN ON!!!  the screen is black.

After charging all night we just tried again and realized the screen is black but I can barely see squares from the login screen...

I tried to turn up the brightness but it doesn't work.  What's going on?

Hi @jslip ,

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Hi @george-p

I am also having the same issue as @jslip. Is there a way for me to be put in touch with the same people?

My HP Chromebook 14 is just 3 months old.

Last night, the power got down to 3% so I plugged the charger in. The screen went immediately black.

Now it wont switch on.

When the charger is in, the light near the charger port turns orange/red. When the charger isnt in, the light is white.

I have held the power button down for over 20 seconds and that did nothing.

Anything else I can do before taking it back to the store and having a moan and swapping it for a different brand?
