Bought a refurbished HP 2000-2b49wm, and it came with Windows 8 installed. I played with it and frankly, I think MS shot themselves in the foot with version 8. So I used my Windows 7 disks to wipe all partitions, repartition and format and then installed Windows 7 to the notebook.

All went well until I ran a graphics-intensive program, and discovered I needed a video driver. Found it on AMD's site and installed - that problem solved. But...

I had to do that via a CD from my desktop, as I have no internet on the laptop. Win 7 says I have no network adapter, which I assume means it needs a driver for the network adapter. Even w/ the cable moved from my desktop to the laptop, Win 7 says "no network adapter."

Can anyone out there tell me where to find a network adapter that will work on this machine. Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

Hi, MrO'Reilly:

If I were you, I would reinstall windows 7, and use the drivers from this model at the link below which has the same hardware as yours.

However, first you need to install the AMD chipset driver and reboot.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=5275377&...

You will find the Realtek wired network adapter listed but there could be one of several model wireless cards in your PC.

So, to find the right driver, go to the device manager and post the hardware ID for the network controller, so I can post the link to the exact driver you need for the wireless card.

If you don't know where to find the hardware ID, please read the info at the link below.

Thank you so much for the response. I hope the information you provide will also help others like me who purchased hardware so new that Win 7 casn't identify it, but who wish to downgrade their systems back to Win 7.

As requested, here are all the hardware IDs that I could collect from the laptop:

You're very welcome.

Is your DVD drive working OK? There are no drivers for it. CD/DVD drivers are native to windows since Windows 2000 came out.

Below are the links to the specific drivers you need based on the hardware ID's:

You need to install the driver for this hardware ID first and reboot. You want to download and install the first file listed.
