I want to boot from the USB. My bios does not have this option. My model number on the tag is DV4000, and on the bios screen its dv4000.  The auto-detect option on the main hp site installs, but then says that the model is not detected - probably too old!  When I go to the bios upgrade area of HP they give me a list of DV4000XX, but how do I know which "XX" to use. Will a bios upgrade allow me to choose USB boot?

Thanks

Take a look at the barcoded tag and post all infor that you see except the serial number.

Here is a link to a very thorough description of how to find your product name/number with all operating system versions.

Thanks :

Product hp pavilion DV4000

 p/n      EN436EA#ABT

Service Tag says  dv4365EA

So I installed the latest (2007) F.21 Bios for dv4365EA overwriting F.03 (2005) but still no USB in list of boot options, (just CD, Floppy, HDD, and network).  Does that mean there is no hardware USB Boot option? Did I take the wrong Bios?

Thanks,

No. You updated to the latest version. It is unfortunate but it seems that option isn't available in official BIOS updates for your notebook.

You can find unofficial updates (mods) that might add the function that you need at   BIOS Mod forums. You will have to do a bit of google searching for this.
