pavilion g6 compatible wireless cards

Hi,

I bought a pvilion g6 and to my dismay found that it cannot connect to my router running in 5ghz mode.

Rather than buy an adapter i am looking to replace the wireless card for one that will do what i want, so my question would be what is a suitable card that will be compatible with this laptop?

The list of supported WLAN cards with corresponding HP part numbers can be found in Chapter 3 starting on page 21.

You MUST only get one of the supported cards listed, and it MUST have the HP part number on it, or it will not work.

"1x1" cards are not 5 Ghz capable.

The Centrino 1000 WLAN card is not 5 Ghz capable.

Hi thanks for your reply,

from looking at that document, the only wireless adapter that will pick up 5ghz (in the uk) would be the :

Realtek 8188BC8 802.11a/b/g/n 2×2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0+HS combo adapter.

I have scoured the internet though and I cannot find anywhere that sells this product.

also, when i enter the part number into he hp parts finder it comes up with a completely different descripton for a 1x1 card?

any help would be appreciated

Hi:

The intel Wifi-Link 5100 (which is the card I would get if it were me), is a dual band capable card, which will work in the UK. See the list of countries part # 593530–001 will work in. I see the UK listed.

I'm sure this card should be readily available. Definitely only do your search query by the HP part number, so you get the Intel card made specifically for HP.

The way I read this post is yes the 5100 is a dual band card but the part number is for the Centrino 1000, not a dual band card as I stated intially.

Now, I was remembering that my notebook (6930p) can come with that card and sure enough, there is a different part number for it

Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN module for use in all countries and regions 480985-001.

The question is...will it work in your notebook? It should, but I can't guarantee it.

If you are willing to gamble a few quid, you can get used but working ones cheap on eBay UK

This one listing is for a new one. If you go this route only get ones listed for HP computers. I see others listed for non-HP PC's.

hmm this is strange.

and if it doesnt work then its not a big deal. one thing i did notice with this card though is that it only gets 54mb throughput on 5ghz which is a bit annoying since i have the 100mb virgin package but thats what cat5s are for i guess. ill let you know of the results when i get the card in a few days

I wish they showed the HP part number on that card! I think it is on the other side.

The new one that was listed shows it.

Do you have your wireless security set up right? 

In order to get more than 54 MBPS, it can only be set to WPA2 personal with AES encryption.

I can't find in the specs where it states the card is limited to 53 MBPS throughput on the 5 GHz band.

Definitely post back, and let me know how it turns out.

i only noted that from looking at another couple of the same card on ebay and they mentioned that it was only 54mbs on 5ghz. not 100% sure how accurate it is though. fingers crossed

Hmmm. I never heard of that.

I thought they would get at least 130 MBPS on either band, if not more. 

Mine gets 144 MBPS on either band, but I think I have the Intel 5300. I'll have to look in my device manager the next time I use my notebook.

I can't find any info other than raw specs. None state only 54 MBPS @ 5 GHz.  Maybe the seller's didn't have their wifi security set up right.
