"system.sav\util\rstone.exe"

HP Recommended

Just received system recovery on USB drive from HP. I plugged it in and began the process. The FACTORY IMAGE RECOVERY PREPARATION started the hard drive was formatted without problems, copying files required to restore the hard drive completed, but as soon as restoring files to the hard drive starts, I get

"Windows cannot find D:\system.sav\util\rstone.exe"

Anyway to get around this?

I had to get new recovery from HP because the recovery disks I had made were corrupted and all efforts failed to get them working.

Hi@RobertInTx,

I was going through your post and would like to help you. Thank you for sharing the issue details.

Error while doing recovery on the PC. Is that right?

Looks like the recovery image on the USB drive is corrupted.

It will be pointless to use it again, however, you may try doing it once again.

I rather suggest you contact phone support with the order details for a replacement recovery drive.

Use the link below to reach out Phone support for the same.

Hope this helps. Let me know for more.

I contacted HP support earlier this morning and they are sending a new recovery drive. Thank you for the reply.

I am having this same issue, whenever I contact hp support they say that my USB is not corrupted and my laptop is "obsolete" when I look at the USB it says it's supposed to be 32GB, but when inserted into the computer it's only 15 GB and full.

I received an USB from tech support, it didn't work. They sent a replacement also did not work. Both times the software loaded to the hard drive, but would not install. The USB was missing a file, I can't remember which one, now. I ended up having to buy a new OS from Amazon.

Having the same issue. Guess I will try to obtain a new one, but appears it may be a futile exercise
