Palm Treo 680 and PalmDesktop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Several Missing Records from Memos Application after HotSync with PalmDecktop 6.2.2 by Access on Windows 10:

I performed four HotSyncs between the handheld (Palm Treo 680) and Palm Desktop by Access (version 6.2.2) in which I encountered error message 4004 each time: (

PmTraceDatabase

  • Protocol Error: Handheld file could not be opened. (4004)
    • SYNCERR_FILE_NOT_OPEN

In the four HotSync sessions, it appears the HotSyncing was not successful as theHotSyncc conduit could not open the Handheld.

On the ensuing HotSync (the fifth) between the handheld (Palm Treo 680) and Palm Desktop by Access (version 6.2.2), I encountered error message 6410 listed in below HotSync log:

HotSync session completed with errors on 06/10/16 21:02:08

  • HotSync session started on 06/10/16 21:01:41, and completed in 27.0 seconds
  • Address Book synchronized successfully
    • Duration: 15.1 seconds
  • Memo Pad synchronization aborted
    • Duration: 8.4 seconds
    • Some Palm OS Desktop records were not copied to the handheld. Attempting to restore from the Palm OS Desktop.
    • Desktop = 593, Handheld = 589
    • Could not copy the following record to the handheld:
    • Welcome to Echo! Echo now provides full, two-way synchronization of y
    • The memory in your handheld may be full. To check the available memory, select Menu/Info from the handheld's Application Launcher.
  • Protocol Error: Unknown error. (6410)

I have tried HotSyncing a few more times and now have significantly fewer records in the Memos application both on the handheld (379 records) and Palm Desktop (468 records).  Listed below is the HotSync logs from subsequent HotSync sessions:

    • HotSync session completed with errors on 02/17/17 22:27:15

Is it possible to recover the seemingly lost Memo records?  I appreciate the help as I have records dating back to 2008 in the Memos application.

Thank you in advance,

Hi and welcome.

Because you did several Hotsyncs, the chances are that the desktop backup of the database does not have the Memos that you lost.  They're probably lost.

The PmTraceDatabase issue can be resolved by installing a file manager on the handheld like FileZ (free, you should be able to find it though I have not looked), using it to search for the PmTraceDatabase file, and un-check it to be synchronized.
