0x6100004a error Cartridge carrier does not move when lid is opened

HP OFFICEJet Pro 6978
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP OFFICEJet Pro 6978 Error code 0x6100004a   after trying alignment request. 

When I open the area for cartridge access the cartridge carrier does not move to the center it is locked in on the right side.

No obstructions anywhere and no paper jams.  Reset to factory settings and reset the printer according to instructions.

What is next?

If you have already performed the steps from the document A 'Paper Jam' Error Displays and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

 

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
