Hi @priceowen

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand your HP LaserJet 1018 printer is leaving a blank strip down the left side of the page.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve it:

Inspect the Toner Cartridge:

Remove the toner cartridge and check for any damage or uneven toner distribution.

Gently shake the cartridge side-to-side to redistribute the toner evenly.

Reinsert the cartridge securely and try printing again.

Clean the Printer:

Dust or debris inside the printer can cause print quality issues. Use a lint-free cloth to clean the interior of the printer, especially around the toner area.

Run the printer's cleaning cycle if available. Check your printer manual for instructions.

Check the Drum Unit:

If your printer uses a separate drum unit, inspect it for scratches or wear. A damaged drum can cause blank or faded areas on the page.

Inspect the Fuser:

The fuser might not be applying heat evenly, leading to blank strips. If the fuser is damaged, it may need to be replaced.

Update Drivers and Firmware:

HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

Click on the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
