HP Recommended

I have two identical HP printers 4630 one started to have smudged ink - I have changed the toner and the paper and done the same on the second printer - both are producing smudgy ink - one page printed perfectly then back to smudge. To find this in one printer is odd but two is bizarre. Both have HP proper cartridges and new good quality paper. What is going on - is this HP trying to get me to buy a new printer?
