Hi @tonygfy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet 4620 is stuck in a setup cartridge loop and won’t reset or function properly due to missing setup cartridges, it sounds like the printer is unable to complete its initial setup or recognize the cartridges correctly. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Ensure Correct Cartridge Installation:
- Even if you don't have the original setup cartridges, make sure that all current cartridges are properly installed. Remove each cartridge and reinsert them to ensure they are seated correctly.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Press the power button to turn off the printer.
- Unplug the printer from the power source.Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back into the power source.Turn the printer back on.
3. Try a Printer Reset Using the Control Panel
- Access the Reset Function:
- Although the printer is not responding to button presses, try these steps in case there’s any minor response:
- Turn on the printer.
- Press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons simultaneously for 10-15 seconds.
- Release the buttons and see if the printer performs any reset.
- Although the printer is not responding to button presses, try these steps in case there’s any minor response:
4. Check for Firmware Updates:
- If you can access the printer’s settings via a computer, check for any firmware updates:
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Enter your printer model and download the latest firmware.
- Follow the instructions to install the update.
5. Test with Known Working Cartridges:
- If you have access to cartridges that are known to be working (even if they are not setup cartridges), try installing them to see if the printer recognizes them.
6. Inspect the Carriage and Ink Areas
- Open the printer’s access door and inspect the ink carriage and ink areas for any obstructions or debris that might be causing issues.
- Gently clean the contacts where the cartridges touch the printer. Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
7. Consult the Printer’s Manual
- Refer to the User Manual:
- Look up the troubleshooting section in your printer’s manual for any specific instructions related to setup cartridge issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
