Tech support says to disconnect I phone VPN in order to print. Other HP printers in the environment work just fine.

Hi @NolaE,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If you're having trouble printing with your HP OfficeJet 8015e All-in-One Printer (8010 series) while connected to a VPN, it could be due to network configuration issues or how the VPN interacts with your local network. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Step 1: Check VPN Settings
- Split Tunneling:
- If your VPN supports split tunneling, enable it. This allows certain traffic (like printing) to bypass the VPN while other traffic goes through it. Check your VPN settings or consult your IT department for guidance.
- DNS Settings:
- Some VPNs change your DNS settings, which might interfere with local network devices. Check if you can configure your VPN to use the local network DNS when attempting to print.
Step 2: Check Printer Connectivity
- Ensure Printer is Connected to the Same Network:
- Make sure your printer is connected to the same local network as your computer. If you're on Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the Wi-Fi network.
- Use Printer IP Address:
- Instead of using the printer name, try printing using the printer's IP address. You can find the IP address on the printer's control panel under Network settings.
Step 3: Configure Windows Firewall
- Allow Printer through Firewall:
- Go to Control Panel > Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.
- Ensure that your printer software is allowed through the firewall.
Step 4: Update Printer Drivers
- Check for Updates:
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet 8015e.
Step 5: Check for Printer Configuration
- Access Printer Settings:
- Go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel.
- Right-click on your HP OfficeJet 8015e and select Printer Properties.
- Ports Tab:
- Under the Ports tab, ensure that the correct port is selected. If you see multiple ports, confirm that the one associated with your printer is selected.
Kindly check the next steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @NolaE,
Please find the next steps below.
Step 6: Print a Test Page
- Test Printing:
- Try printing a test page directly from the printer properties to see if it works.
Step 7: Temporarily Disconnect from VPN
- If you're still unable to print, try temporarily disconnecting from the VPN and see if printing works without it. If it does, this indicates that the VPN is likely the issue.
If you're using a work VPN, consider reaching out to your IT support team for assistance. They may have specific configurations or settings for printing while connected to the VPN.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve issues with printing via a VPN on your HP OfficeJet 8015e All-in-One Printer.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
