HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer

On an 8710 printer, I opened the cartridge access door to remove the printhead for cleaning.  However, the carriage has now moved back to the right side where I can't reach in to reinstall the printhead.  How can I make the carriage move back to the left and stop so the carriage is accessible to reinstall the printhead?  Thank you.

Hi @Spencer67,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To move the carriage back to the left on an HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer, you can follow these steps.

  • Power On the Printer: Ensure that the printer is powered on.
  • Close the Cartridge Access Door: Close the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to return to its home position. The printer typically moves the carriage automatically when you close the door.
  • Manually Move the Carriage: If the carriage doesn't return to the left after closing the door, you may need to manually move it. To do this, turn off the printer and gently move the carriage to the left by pushing it. Be cautious not to force it too much, as you don't want to damage anything.
  • Turn On the Printer: Once the carriage is in the correct position, turn the printer back on.
  • Perform a Printer Reset (if necessary): If the above steps don't work, you can try performing a printer reset. To do this, turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. Turn the printer on and check if the carriage returns to the left.

After completing these steps, you should be able to access the carriage to reinstall the printhead.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
