Message on my printer was this: There is a problem with the supply system. Try repacing the affected caartridge (black ink) with a different, non-empty cartridge. If message reappears again, record message and contact HP".
I contacted HP and the virtural assistant referred me to this support community. I purchased brand new black cartridge, with expiration date of 11-26 and repace the black ink. Still does not work and same message appears. I tried another brand new black cartridge but message was the same. Any help anybody can provide is truly appreciated. Thanks.

@AW928, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error you're encountering on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8725 All-in-One Printer "There is a problem with the supply system..." is typically related to one of the following:
- Faulty ink cartridge — Even new cartridges can be defective.
- Cartridge not properly installed or recognized.
- Cartridge region mismatch or non-genuine cartridge.
- Ink system failure or electrical contact issue inside the printer.
- Firmware issue or cartridge authentication failure.
Please try these steps,
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer using the power button.
- Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).
- Turn the printer back on.
Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure the black cartridge is genuine HP and compatible with the 8725 model (typically HP 952 or 952XL).
- Even new cartridges can be defective or incompatible if not HP-certified.
Clean the Cartridge Vents
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove the black cartridge.
- Inspect the vent area (small holes on top of the cartridge).
- Use a pin or paperclip to gently clear any blockages or adhesive residue.
- Reinsert the cartridge and ensure it clicks into place.
Clean the Electrical Contacts
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
- Let them dry for a few minutes before reinserting.
Try a Different Cartridge
- If you haven’t already, try a third cartridge (preferably from a different batch or retailer) to rule out a faulty batch.
Update Printer Firmware
- Go to HP Software and Drivers and check for the latest firmware for your model.
- Install any available updates.
If none of the above works, the issue might be with the printhead. We then suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support
