HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

I just bought a new Cyan 951XL cartridge for my HP 8610 printer.  It does not go into the slot.  Did HP change the cartridge case?  Did anyone else have this issue?

Hi @JT417,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding cartridge for your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these trouble shooting steps to check if you have the right cartridge:

Verify the Cartridge is Correct

  • Check the model number on the box and cartridge itself. It should be HP 951XL Cyan.
  • Make sure it’s genuine HP and not a third-party refill, as some refills have slightly different dimensions.

Compare with Your Old Cartridge

  • Place the new cartridge side by side with your old one.
  • Look for any differences in size, shape, or plastic ridges.
  • If the molding is different, it might be a regional variation or a manufacturing defect.

Try Reinserting It

  • Ensure no packaging material or tape is left on the cartridge.
  • Insert it at the correct angle—sometimes, XL cartridges require a firmer push to snap into place.
  • If it still doesn’t fit, check for any obstructions in the printer slot.

Check for HP Region Locking

  • If you purchased the cartridge from a different country, it may not be compatible with your printer due to HP's region restrictions.

Let me know if you need help checking compatibility! 😊

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍
