Hi @Draig1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the print quality settings are not accessible in HP Smart anymore. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and improve the color quality of your HP ENVY Photo 7134 printer:

Check Print Quality Settings (HP Smart Alternative)

Since the "Best" option is missing in HP Smart, try adjusting print quality from the printer properties in your PC:

  • Windows:
    1. Open the document/photo you want to print.
    2. Press Ctrl + P to open the Print menu.
    3. Select your HP ENVY Photo 7134 printer and click Printer Properties or Preferences.
    4. Look for Quality Settings (Draft, Normal, Best) and select Best.
    5. Click Apply > OK, then print again.
  • Mac:
    1. Open the file and click File > Print.
    2. Click Show Details (if available).
    3. Choose Media & Quality or Print Quality, then select Best.
    4. Try printing again.

Align and Clean Printhead

Poor color quality can be caused by a misaligned or clogged printhead:

  • Use HP Smart:
    1. Open HP Smart and go to Printer Settings.
    2. Look for Printer Maintenance > Printhead Cleaning.
    3. Run the cleaning process and then print a test page.

Check Ink Levels

  • Open HP Smart or Printer Properties and check ink levels.
  • If ink levels are low, replace the cartridges with genuine HP 303 ink cartridges.

Use Photo Paper and Correct Color Profile

  • For best results, use HP photo paper instead of regular A4.
  • If printing photos, ensure you select HP Advanced Photo Paper under paper type.

Update Printer Drivers

  • Download the latest drivers from HP Support.
  • Uninstall and reinstall HP Smart if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thankyou so much for your advice, however I have not been able to sort the problem.

After control+P the print menu comes up but theres nowhere to select "print properties or preferences".

There is no "quality settings" just a list inc. "paper size, photo size, fit" and at the bottom "more settings".

When i go to "more settings" there is a quick flash of another page that includes "paper size, paper type" and then

it flashes off .

Ive done all the aligning and cleaning.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Thank you for your response, @Draig1
Thanks for trying those steps! Since the print quality settings are not appearing properly in HP Smart or the print menu, here are some alternative troubleshooting steps:

Try Accessing Print Preferences via Control Panel

If the settings are not appearing in the print menu, try accessing them through the Control Panel:

  1. Press Windows + R, type control printers, and press Enter.
  2. Right-click on HP ENVY Photo 7134 and select Printing Preferences.
  3. Look for a tab like Paper/Quality, Features, or Advanced.
  4. Find Print Quality and set it to Best.
  5. Click Apply and OK, then try printing again.

Reset the HP Smart App

If HP Smart is behaving strangely (flashing menus), try resetting it:

  1. Close HP Smart completely.
  2. Press Windows + I to open Settings → Go to AppsInstalled apps.
  3. Find HP Smart, click Advanced Options, and select Reset.
  4. Restart your computer and try printing again.

Reinstall the Full HP Driver Package

HP Smart may not have full printer functionality. Try installing the complete HP Full Feature Software:

  1. Uninstall HP Smart (Windows + I → Apps → HP Smart → Uninstall).
  2. Download the full driver from HP’s support site.
  3. Install the driver, restart your PC, and try printing again.

Check if Windows is Using the Right Printer Driver

Sometimes, Windows installs a basic driver instead of HP's full driver. To check:

  1. Press Windows + R, type control printers, and hit Enter.
  2. Right-click your HP ENVY Photo 7134 and select PropertiesAdvanced.
  3. Under Driver, ensure it shows HP ENVY Photo 7100 Series (NOT a basic driver like “Class Driver” or “WS”).
  4. If incorrect, install the full driver from HP’s website.

Try Using a Different App to Print

If HP Smart isn’t working properly, try printing from another app:

  • Open the image in Windows Photos → Click Print → Select More settings.
  • Open in Adobe Acrobat Reader (for PDFs) → Click Print → Check Advanced settings.
  • Try Microsoft Word or another app to see if settings appear there.

Factory Reset Your Printer (Last Resort)

If nothing else works, try resetting your HP ENVY Photo 7134:

  1. On the printer’s touchscreen, go to SetupPrinter Maintenance.
  2. Look for Restore Defaults or Reset.
  3. After resetting, reconnect the printer and reinstall drivers.

I hope this helps!

If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up” button to say thanks!

Take care and have a great day.
