Hi @JScaffo,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
The error message “65 cartridge problem”, indicating that the cartridges are not communicating correctly, usually means the HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer is having trouble recognising the cartridges you installed. Here are the steps you can follow to resolve this:
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check Cartridge Installation
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove the cartridges and carefully reinstall them, ensuring they click firmly into place.
- Check that the protective tape/cover on the cartridges has been completely removed.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts
- Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water, gently clean the copper-colored electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer carriage.
- Let them dry completely before reinstalling.
- Use Genuine HP Cartridges
- Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges compatible with your HP ENVY 5055.
- Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause communication errors.
- Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults (if the issue persists)
- From the printer control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
