Hi @Jerryju,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer still says the cartridge must be replaced even after installing a new one, here are the most common causes and solutions:
1. Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Make sure the cartridge is a genuine HP and compatible with your printer model.
- You can verify this on the HP Cartridge Compatibility Page.
2. Remove and Reinsert the Cartridge
- Turn the printer on.
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove the cartridge and check for protective tape — if it’s still on, remove it.
- Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
- Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the cartridge.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
- Let everything dry for 5 minutes, then reinstall.
4. Reset the Printer
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn the printer on.
5. Update Firmware
- Use the HP Smart App or visit the HP Software & Drivers page to check for firmware updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
