Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600. After replacing an ink cartridge with a new HP original cartridge I received the Printer Failure Message that "there is a problem with thew printer or ink system." I've turned the printer off and on, disconnected it from power source, etc. Nothing works. Now my computer doesn't seem to be able to locate this printer.  Any thoughts?

Hi @PROKLOS,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already tried some basic troubleshooting steps, so let's delve a bit deeper. Here are some additional steps you can try.

  • Reset the printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the back, and wait for about 1-2 minutes. Then reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer. This can sometimes reset any internal errors.
  • Check for any obstructions: Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams, debris, or obstructions that may be blocking the print head or carriage.
  • Re-seat the ink cartridges: Open the printer cover and remove all ink cartridges. Then, re-seat each cartridge firmly into its designated slot. Make sure they are properly clicked into place.
  • Clean the cartridge contacts: Sometimes, the contacts on the ink cartridges or within the printer can get dirty or covered in ink residue. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to gently clean the contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer. Be careful not to touch the nozzles or copper-colored contacts.
  • Update printer drivers: If your computer is unable to locate the printer, it could be a driver issue. Go to the HP website, locate the Officejet Pro 8600 printer drivers for your operating system, and download/install the latest drivers.
  • Check ink levels: If possible, check the ink levels on the new cartridge to ensure it's properly recognized by the printer.

These steps should help you troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8600.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
