@TPH200, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
That message — “Original cartridge installed” — showing on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e after replacing the black ink cartridge can sometimes stick due to a firmware hiccup or cartridge recognition issue. Here's how to clear it:

Try These Steps:

Power Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the wall and printer.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in and turn it on.

This resets the internal memory and often clears stuck messages.

Clean the Contacts
Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.

Reinsert the Black Cartridge

  1. Open the ink access door.
  2. Remove the black cartridge you just installed.
  3. Gently wipe the gold-colored contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  4. Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • On the printer’s screen:
SetupPrinter MaintenanceUpdate PrinterCheck for Updates Now
  • Alternatively, use the HP Smart app on your PC or phone to check for firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
