Laserjet P1606DN (networked)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently changed out a desktop PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (by wiping the machine followed by a clean load of Windows 10). The LaserJet is connected via ethernet to the in-house network. The current driver (which I don't like, but that's another matter) is NPIBDC69D. If I try to print even a test page, I see the item in the printer queue, but the top of the queue says "attention required". The printer must be communicating at some level, because if I open the door on the printer the attention required changes to "door open". So I need some ideas on what sort of action needs to be taken. By the way, if I try to print, the windows system itself displays a message that the printer requires "user intervention". I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on how to move forward from this point. Thank you very much.

Hi,

Try following below specific version of the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility by selecting your printer:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Be sure to restart your PC and allow the utility to complete the process, then check for any difference.

Try printing and check for any change, if the same remains try printing using the newly added print queue copy (Copy1) and check for any difference.

Utility found the printer, but Unfortunately it only said "printer off-line". Perhaps it is not able to work with the printer that is on the network rather than being directly connected to the PC. By the way, I can print to this printer from my iPad on the network without any issue so it is definitely on the network and available.  So I still need other ideas on how to get past this problem. In Windows 7 there was never an issue with the PC being able to print to this networked LaserJet.

Thanks for the information.

Please try following steps 6 and 7 below to set a manual IP Address and then change  the printer queue to use a Standard TCP/IP port:

May you see any difference then?
