Can anyone explain why this keeps happening? I’ve just copied and pasted and inserted a text box and the background is black, this isn’t the first time it’s happened either. So annoying when you’ve spent time doing something and now have to start all over again

Image backgrounds are indicated by the type of image, whether the image is translated to a different file type, and how the image is managed (used, copied / inserted into a document, for example).

There are LOTS of ways to manage, create, insert images into different document types.

The answer you need depends on what you are using / doing / trying to accomplish.

There are articles, examples, and explanations on the Internet to fit different situations.

How to find the answer:

  • Open your favorite search engine (Google, Duck-Duck, or any other)
  • Search for "why is the image background black?" or any similar wording.
  • Find the answer that fits your situation and adjust what you are doing / expecting accordingly.

In general,

  • Use PNG files (for example, filename.png) to retain background transparency.
  • Never use copy / paste to add image(s) to an Office Word document (always use Insert).
