Hi @CP2569,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 is still producing black horizontal lines after replacing all cartridges, the issue likely involves the printhead or alignment. Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to resolve it.

Check Paper Type and Quality

  • Ensure you are using the correct paper type and quality settings for your print job. Glossy or heavy paper can cause smearing or streaking if not set correctly.
  • Clean the paper feed rollers to remove dust or debris.

Run Printhead Cleaning

  • On the printer:
    1. Go to the Settings or Maintenance menu.
    2. Select Tools > Clean Printhead.
    3. Run the cleaning process. You may need to repeat this 2-3 times for noticeable improvement.
  • Print a test page to see if the issue is resolved.

Align Printheads

  • After replacing cartridges, it’s essential to align the printhead:
    1. Go to the Settings or Maintenance menu.
    2. Select Align Printhead.
    3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the alignment process.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Visit the HP Support Website to download the latest firmware for your printer.

Inspect the Printhead

  • If cleaning and aligning don’t resolve the problem, the printhead may need manual cleaning or replacement:
    1. Open the printer and remove the printhead (refer to the user manual for instructions).
    2. Gently clean the bottom of the printhead using a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
    3. Reinstall the printhead and cartridges.
  • Caution: Handle the printhead carefully to avoid damage.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds and plug it back in.
  • Power it on and try printing again.

Test with a Different File

  • Sometimes, the issue could be with the specific file you are printing. Test with a different document to rule out file-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
