Hi @RB0501,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with a cartridge.

If your HP Photosmart 6520 E-All-In-One Printer is not recognizing or working with a black ink cartridge purchased from HP.com, despite running diagnostics, cleaning contacts, and clearing adhesive, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check Cartridge Authenticity

  • Ensure the cartridge is a genuine HP product. Sometimes, even genuine cartridges can have defects, but it’s good to confirm you’re using the correct and original product.

2. Reset the Printer

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait: Leave it unplugged for about 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect and Turn On: Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the internal memory and fix recognition issues.

3. Reinstall the Cartridge

  1. Remove the Black Cartridge: Take out the problematic black ink cartridge.
  2. Check for Residue: Ensure there is no residue or tape on the cartridge contacts.
  3. Reinsert the Cartridge: Carefully and firmly reinsert the cartridge into the printer. Ensure it clicks into place securely.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check for Firmware Updates: Visit the HP Support website and check for any available firmware updates for your Photosmart 6520 printer.
  2. Download and Install: Follow the instructions to download and install any updates. This can sometimes resolve issues with cartridge recognition.

5. Perform a Printer Reset

  1. With the Printer On: Disconnect the power cord from the printer while it is still on.
  2. Unplug from Power Source: Disconnect the other end of the power cord from the power source.
  3. Wait: Leave the printer disconnected for at least 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect Power: Plug the power cord back into the power source and the printer.
  5. Turn On the Printer: Turn the printer back on and check if the cartridge is recognized.

Kindly find the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @RB0501,

Kindly find the next set of steps below.

6. Clean Printhead and Contacts

  1. Remove the Cartridge: Take out the black ink cartridge.
  2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge.
  3. Clean the Printer Contacts: Use the same cloth to clean the electrical contacts inside the printer where the cartridge is installed.
  4. Reinsert the Cartridge: Reinsert the cartridge and run a cleaning cycle from the printer's menu.

7. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download the Tool: Download and install the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run the Tool: Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix issues with the printer.

8. Try Another Cartridge

If possible, try using another black ink cartridge (preferably another genuine HP cartridge) to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge itself or the printer.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be a more serious problem with the printer. Contact HP Phone Support for further assistance:

You may also refer to his document for other print quality issues.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
