After switching out to a second new black ink cartridge, I found black ink puddled in the base of the print head on the right side of the printer. Is it shot, or is there a fix for this?

Hi @Joe0879

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your printer might have a leaking or clogged printhead, which is causing the black ink to pool.

Here are some steps you can try to fix the issue:

1. Clean the Printhead

  • Steps:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    2. Remove the ink cartridges and locate the printhead assembly.
    3. Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the printhead and surrounding area.
    4. Allow the printhead to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

2. Inspect the Cartridges

  • Check the black ink cartridge for any damage or leaks.
  • Ensure the cartridge is properly seated and the protective tape has been fully removed.

3. Perform a Deep Cleaning Cycle

  • On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle multiple times to clear any blockages.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
