I am using a smart tank 7000 series printer. When I print on matte paper, the black ink does not dry. All the other colours dry quickly, but when you run your finger over the black ink it smudges. I have tried every setting that is offered I can't find a solution everywhere.

Hi @DaniDani333 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering an issue with ink drying on matte paper. Here are some troubleshooting steps that might help resolve the problem:

  • Check Ink Settings: Ensure that you are using the correct paper type setting in your printer's settings. For matte paper, make sure that it is set to "Matte Paper" or a similar option. Sometimes the wrong setting can affect the ink's drying time.
  • Adjust Print Quality: Try adjusting the print quality settings. Lower quality settings (like Draft or Normal) may use less ink, which can help it dry faster.
  • Use the Correct Paper: Make sure you are using high-quality matte paper that is designed for inkjet printers. Some matte papers are better suited for ink absorption than others.
  • Allow Drying Time: If possible, allow extra time for the print to dry. Matte papers can sometimes take longer to dry, especially if you are using a lot of ink.
  • Check Ink Cartridges: Ensure that the black ink cartridge is properly installed and not clogged. Sometimes, a partially clogged cartridge can affect ink flow and drying.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check for any firmware updates for your printer. Sometimes, updates can fix printing issues and improve overall performance. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Clean the Printhead: Perform a printhead cleaning cycle using the printer's maintenance options. This can help resolve issues related to ink application and drying.

I hope this helps.
