When printing, color is great, but black has a missing line, or half a line. What does print is great quality, but it’s missing part of the words or images that need to be printed.

Hi @MAKDaddy2024,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 is printing with missing lines in black text or images, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the black ink cartridge is not running low or empty. Even if the ink level looks fine, the cartridge might still be the cause.
Print Head Cleaning: Perform a print head cleaning through the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel. This can help clear any clogs that may be causing the missing lines.
- On the HP Smart app: Go to Printer Settings > Print Quality Tools > Clean Printhead.
- On the printer’s control panel: Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
Print Head Alignment: Sometimes, misalignment can cause printing issues. Perform a print head alignment.
- On the HP Smart app: Go to Printer Settings > Print Quality Tools > Align Printheads.
- On the printer’s control panel: Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead.
Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Updates can sometimes resolve printing issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Go to HP Smart app > Printer Settings > Printer Maintenance > Firmware Update.
Replace the Ink Cartridge: If cleaning and alignment don’t resolve the issue, try replacing the black ink cartridge with a new one, even if the current one appears to be full. Sometimes, cartridges can be faulty.
Inspect the Printhead: Check the printhead for any visible damage or obstructions. If you suspect the printhead is faulty, it may need to be replaced.
Run a Diagnostic Report: Use the HP Smart app or printer’s control panel to run a diagnostic report or print a test page to identify any issues.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
