I am getting black streaks on all my printouts and copies, sometimes darker and more extensive, sometimes very faint. I followed the instructions from the virtual assistant and it seems that the image drum is dirty. If I clean it then turn it around, it will come back dirty again. What should I do next?

Hi @nms27, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw is producing black streaks on printouts and copies, and the image drum gets dirty again after cleaning, it suggests that there's an ongoing issue with toner leakage, drum damage, or a faulty toner cartridge. Here’s what you can do next:
Check the Toner Cartridges for Leaks
- Remove all toner cartridges (Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow).
- Inspect them for any toner spills or leaks, especially the black toner since you're seeing black streaks.
- If a cartridge is leaking toner, replace it with a new genuine HP toner.
Inspect the Image Drum for Damage
- If the drum has visible scratches, marks, or damage, it may need to be replaced.
- Even small scratches can cause streaks since toner builds up in those areas.
Ensure the Transfer Roller is Clean
- The transfer roller (inside the printer, under the drum) can sometimes have excess toner buildup.
- Use a lint-free cloth to gently wipe it. Avoid touching it with bare hands.
Run the Printer's Cleaning Cycle
- From the printer's control panel:
- Press Menu > Device Settings > Maintenance.
- Select Print Quality > Clean Drum.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Try a Test Print with a Blank Page
- Insert a blank page and print a blank document.
- If black streaks appear even on a blank page, the issue is with the drum or fuser.
Consider Replacing the Drum or Toner
- If the issue persists after cleaning, replace the imaging drum.
- If you already replaced the drum recently, try using a new toner cartridge.
Check for Firmware Updates
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date:
- Go to HP Support website and check for the latest firmware.
- Install updates if available.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
