I've seen a few post about this and it appears the issue is not with the printer but with the software or something else. The answer seems to be sent via private message rather than reply to a post. I just started having this issue where a thing black line runs along the left side of the page when I print multiple pages (except the last page). I had to reinstall the printer not long ago and the issue started shortly after. I don't recall if it was immediate or not because it only happens when printing at least 6 pages or more (I've successfully printed 5 pages at a time with no line, but don't have any packages smaller than printing 20+ pages to test). I just brought out my spare laptop and tried printing to the same printer, it worked and printed no lines. So the issue must be somewhere in how the printer is set up on main laptop. I have no idea what the setting would be that could cause this. Any suggestions?

Hi @VanceCLS ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand how frustrating this must be, especially after reinstalling the printer and trying different devices. Let's try to figure out what's going on.
Can you confirm if the black line appears on all documents, including different file types (PDF, Word, etc.)? Also, have you checked if the issue happens with both wireless and USB connections, or only with one?
Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:
Check Printer Settings
- Go to your printer settings on the laptop and check for any print quality settings, particularly those related to print density or color settings. Resetting them to default might help.
Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Uninstall the current printer drivers from your laptop, then reinstall the latest drivers from the HP website to ensure you have the most up-to-date software for your printer.
Clear Print Queue and Restart Printer
- Clear the print queue on your laptop and restart both the laptop and the printer. Sometimes, residual print jobs can cause issues with printing multiple pages.
Test Different Software or Applications
- Try printing from a different software or application (e.g., print a PDF using Adobe Acrobat if you were using another viewer). This will help identify if the issue is related to a specific program.
Check for Any Firmware Updates
- Go to the printer’s settings and check if there is any firmware update available. A firmware update can sometimes fix odd issues like these. Or click here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
