Hi @peikaR661,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Ink leakage from a printer cartridge can be both frustrating and messy. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you address and resolve the issue of black ink leaking from your HP DeskJet 5525:

**1. Inspect the Cartridge and Printer

Check Cartridge:

  1. Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door.Carefully remove the black ink cartridge.
  2. Check the cartridge for any visible signs of leakage. Look for ink residue or drips around the cartridge.
  3. Ensure that the ink nozzles and contacts on the cartridge are clean and not obstructed
    1. Look inside the printer for any signs of ink spillage.
    2. Check for ink stains on the printhead, paper path, or any internal components.

**2. Clean the Cartridge and Printer

  • Wipe the Cartridge:
    1. Use a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with water to gently wipe the exterior of the cartridge.Be careful not to touch the nozzles or contacts.
  • Wipe Internal Parts:
    1. With the printer off, use a dry, lint-free cloth to wipe any ink residue from the internal components.Avoid using any liquid cleaners inside the printer.

**3. Replace the Cartridge

  1. If the cartridge continues to leak or shows signs of damage, replace it with a new, genuine HP cartridge.
  2. Ensure the new cartridge is installed correctly and securely.

**4. Check for Proper Installation

  1. Reinstall the cartridge into the printer, ensuring it clicks into place and is seated properly.
  2. Close the cartridge access door and turn the printer back on.

**5. Perform Printer Maintenance

  1. Use the printer’s built-in cleaning utility to clean the print head. This can usually be accessed from the printer’s control panel or through the HP software on your computer.
  2. Follow the prompts to clean the print head and check if this resolves the issue.
  3. Print a test page or print quality diagnostic report to see if the print quality improves and if there are any remaining issues.

**6. Check Ink Cartridge Expiry

  1. Check the expiry date on the cartridge packaging. Using expired cartridges can sometimes cause printing issues, including leakage.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
