Can 2 cartridges (same size) be used interchangeably, for 2 printers on same account?

I have 2 printers on the same account (in adjoining offices). They have the same size ink cartridges. Can the cartridges be used interchangeably or are they printer specific? (When we receive cartridges, there is no marking on the packages to let us know which printer the ink is for.)  **I want to use them interchangeably**
