Can 952 ink cartridges used in a previous printer be used until empty in a new, compatible printer? I have an OfficeJet 9010 Series that uses 952 cartridges that won't accept the cartridges pulled out, then attempted to reinsert them. Some are brand new, others have ink remaining. I might have jammed the carousel they load in and am thinking of buying a new HP 952 cartridge printer. Please advise, thanks.

@B1031, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check for Cartridge Issues:

New Cartridges: Try inserting the new, unused HP 952 cartridges. If the printer works with these, then the issue is likely with the used ones.

Used Cartridges: If the used cartridges don’t work, check if the chip on the cartridge is dirty or damaged. Clean it gently with a soft cloth.

Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Wait for 60 seconds and connect the power cord back in.
  5. Turn on the printer.

Check for Cartridge Jam:

Open the Printer: Check if there’s anything blocking the carousel where the cartridges sit.

Move the Carousel: Gently move the carousel to see if it’s stuck. Be careful not to force it.

Look for Obstructions: Check for any paper, debris, or anything else inside that might be preventing the cartridges from seating properly.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
