@Timothy45, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Black Ink Issues on HP OfficeJet 5255!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP OfficeJet 5255 All-in-One Printer is not printing in black ink, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Step 1: Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges
Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges, as HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges.
Step 2: Check Ink Levels
Ensure that the black ink cartridge has sufficient ink. You can check this from the printer’s control panel by navigating to the "Supplies" section and looking at the ink levels. If the black cartridge is empty or low, replace it with a new one.
Step 3: Replace Ink Cartridges
If the ink levels are sufficient, consider replacing the black ink cartridge with a new one to see if the problem persists. Follow these steps to replace the ink cartridge:
- Turn on the printer.
- Open the front access door.
- Wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
- Push in on the front of the ink cartridge to release it, and then remove it from its slot.
- Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging and gently remove any protective tape.
- Insert the new ink cartridge into the empty slot and push it until it snaps into place.
- Close the front access door.
Step 4: Align the Printer
To achieve the best print quality, it is necessary to align the ink cartridges.
- After closing the front access door, wait for the printer to print the alignment page.
- Open the scanner lid, and then place the printed alignment page face down on the scanner glass.
- Close the scanner lid and press OK.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
