Hi, I have an HP ENVY 5000 and just recently got it setup (again) after having it for around 4 or 5 years. I'm trying to print out tickets and I went to print it in color, but it printed in black and white. The printer said I can't use the color ink cartridge until I subscribe to HP Instant Ink. But... I have 2 colored ink cartridges that I DID get from it a while ago, but stopped subscribing because I hardly printed anything. My question is... Why do I have to pay to use the ink cartridges that I already own? That makes no sense. I shouldn't have to pay for a subscription service to use ink that I already own. Am I misinterpreting this?

Hi @ellispades,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your printer after cancelling the instant ink service.
When you cancel the service:
- You can continue printing with Instant Ink supplies until the end of your current billing cycle.
- At the end of the billing cycle, you must remove Instant Ink cartridges and purchase Original HP Ink or Toner directly from the retailer of your choice to continue printing. Instant Ink cartridges only work in enrolled printers.
- Your final monthly charge comes at the end of the billing cycle.
- The Paper Add-on service ends with your Instant Ink service.
Note: HP Instant Ink is based on the pages you print, not cartridges or shipments you receive.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
