I recently canceled Instant Ink, and just put in regular ink cartridges. Just tried to print, but it says it won't WORK with these cartridges. Is there a SETTING I need to change or something? Like, maybe my PRINTER still thinks it only works with Instant Ink cartridges?? Help. Thanks!

Hi @Sharon-Tom,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are looking for information on how to cancel the instant ink service.
Before you perform the below troubleshooting steps, may I know if you are using genuine HP ink cartridges?
If yes,
Please follow the below steps to cancel the service.
If you cancel:
- You can continue printing with Instant Ink supplies until the end of your current billing cycle.
- At the end of the billing cycle, you must remove Instant Ink cartridges and purchase Original HP Ink or Toner directly from the retailer of your choice to continue printing. Instant Ink cartridges only work in enrolled printers.
- Your final monthly charge comes at the end of the billing cycle.
- The Paper Add-on service ends with your Instant Ink service.
Note: HP Instant Ink is based on the pages you print, not cartridges or shipments you receive.

I already CANCELED the Instant Ink subscription about two weeks ago. Bought new genuine HP cartridges (since we could not use the Instant Ink cartridges any longer), but the printer is saying "The indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer."
HELP. Thank you!

Hi @Sharon-Tom,
I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the new cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

We performed all the steps above, but the printer says (still) the cartridges are not compatible with this printer. It seems (I believe) that the PRINTER still "thinks" it's ONLY supposed to work with the Instant Ink subscription that I CANCELED (since my mom died -- it was her computer). HOW do I get my printer to KNOW it's supposed to work with REGULAR cartridges now, and NOT with Instant Ink cartridges any more?? PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU!! Becky (daughter of Tom & Sharon)
