I have an office jet pro 8028.  Have been using instant ink, but the company i work for is now providing my ink for free.  Got the new cartridges and they will not communicate with the printer.

Hi @CROWNBOZ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out! If you're using an HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 and switching from Instant Ink cartridges to standard cartridges (provided by your company), but the printer is not recognizing them, here’s what's happening — and how to resolve it.

1. Remove ALL Instant Ink Cartridges

  • Turn the printer on.
  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove all Instant Ink cartridges (they’ll say “Instant Ink” on the label).

2. Install the New Standard HP Cartridges

  • Insert the standard (non-Instant Ink) cartridges provided by your company.
  • Make sure they are genuine HP and match your printer model (e.g., HP 910 or HP 910XL).

3. Disconnect the Printer from Instant Ink

  • Go to your printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.
  • Navigate to:
    • Settings > Web Services > Remove Web Services
    • Or look for HP Instant Ink settings and select Cancel or Unenroll.
  • If Web Services were enabled, disabling them helps clear any cloud link with HP's servers.

4. Restart the Printer

  • Power off the printer completely.
  • Unplug it from the wall for 1–2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
