HP Recommended
hp laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I keep getting a "Driver is unavailable" error message. and cannot print or scan. I have tried all of the easy things and they do nothelp. I have done all the updates. I have a Laser Jet Pro MFP M281dw pinter. Do I need to unistall and re-install the software? Thanks, Eric

Yes

Which printer do you have

  1. HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw (T6B83A) ?
  2. HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw (T6B82A) ?

Keep me posted.

If you are using Windows 10 I would go to the APP store and download the HP Smart app. Is your printer connected to a print server or do you print direct? The error message you are getting is most commonly seen when you have a shared device but the required drivers are not installed on the computer that is sharing the printer for others to connect to. For instance, if you have the device attached to a 64Bit windows system and you are sharing to a 32Bit Windows system, you need to add the 32 Bit drivers to the 64 bit computer. This is done by going to control panel>devices and printers, right clicking on the icon for the shared device and selecting printer properties. Then click on the sharing tab and then additional drivers check mark the 32 bit drivers and when prompted point the folder where you have downloaded the additional drivers to.
