Microsoft Windows 11

Good morning, my HP 7605 multifunction printer, which is just over two years old, has stopped working. The display shows "carriage jam" but there is nothing physically blocked inside. I contacted support via WhatsApp with extreme difficulty and they haven't resolved anything. They were not even able to tell me where I could take it for repair at my own expense. On the HP website, the service centers are only for commercial/business products, not consumer ones. Basically, it's impossible to repair it!!! This is pure madness!!! Is this possible? Who should I contact? Thank you.

Hi @PaoloPretto,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 7605 is showing a “Carriage Jam” message even though nothing appears blocked, and you’re unable to find repair options. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

1. Power reset the printer

• Turn the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back, and wait 30 seconds.
• Plug it back in and let it restart fully. This clears false carriage-jam alerts.

2. Manually move the carriage

• Open the ink-access door and gently slide the carriage left and right.
• If it moves freely, the issue may be with sensors rather than a physical jam.

3. Check for small obstructions

• Use a flashlight to inspect the left and right ends of the carriage path.
• Tiny paper scraps, dried ink buildup, or a loose plastic fragment can trigger the message.

4. Clean the carriage path and encoder strip

• Lightly wipe the transparent encoder strip behind the carriage with a dry, lint-free cloth.
• Dust or ink smudges on the strip can cause mis-reading and create a “carriage jam” error.

5. Reseat and check the printhead latch

• Ensure the printhead latch is fully down and locked.
• A partially open latch often shows as a false carriage jam.

6. Remove all paper and reload the input tray

• Take out the paper stack, check for curled or damaged sheets, and reload neatly.
• Improper paper positioning can trigger internal sensors related to carriage movement.

7. Reset the printer settings

• On the printer menu, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore Defaults.
• This resets internal calibration and error states.

I hope this helps.

I have already tried the solutions you propose, which are also written on the HP website, multiple times and they don't work, so the problem is something else. What I need is a call center to phone to have a courier come and collect it, or to know where I can send it for repair. But HP doesn't have a call center, doesn't send couriers, and doesn't even suggest where to take it for repair. We are talking about a printer that cost more than €250, purchased just over two years ago!

Unacceptable... never again HP...
