I purchased a pack of HP Ink Cartridges from Office Depot, came home and inserted the low ink cartridges on my printer and am now getting a Cartridge Problem error: One or more cartridges appear to be damaged...  I have watched many you tube videos and have been all over the HP website/virtual assistance without any resolution.  I have reset my power to what seems like a million times and I'm still receiving the error.  When I open the printer door, my cartridge carrier DOES NOT move.  It's stuck and WILL NOT MOVE.  What do I do?!  I just spent $145 on INK Cartridges that are HP Brand and are apparently faulty.  My printer was working just fine before changing cartridges.  Please help?!

Hi @RinaH76 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're dealing with a frustrating situation with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check for Obstructions

  • Open the printer door and check for any paper jams or foreign objects that may be blocking the cartridge carrier. Sometimes even a small piece of paper or debris can prevent the carrier from moving.

2. Manually Move the Cartridge Carrier

  • With the printer powered off, gently try to move the cartridge carrier by hand. If it feels stuck, do not force it. Check for any visible obstruction that might be causing resistance.

3. Power Reset

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the electrical outlet for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches that affect the cartridge movement or error messages.

4. Inspect the Cartridges

  • Double-check the new cartridges to ensure they are inserted properly. Remove them one by one, and gently shake them from side to side to distribute the ink inside.
  • Make sure there are no protective tape strips still attached to the cartridges, which can sometimes cause issues.

5. Check for Cartridge Compatibility

  • While you mentioned that the ink cartridges are HP brand, make sure that they are the correct model for your printer. Double-check the product numbers on the cartridges against the printer’s specifications.

6. Perform a Hard Reset (Cartridge Reset)

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Wait about 30 seconds, then plug the printer back in.
  • Open the printer door and ensure the carriage is still stuck. If it is, gently push or nudge it to see if it moves. Sometimes, a small bump can dislodge it if it's just stuck in place.
  • Power the printer back on and check if the error persists.

7. Run the Printer’s Diagnostic Tools

  • If the error continues, use the printer’s built-in diagnostic tool (if accessible) to check for cartridge issues. Some printers allow you to run a diagnostic directly from the control panel.

8. Try Another Set of Cartridges

  • Since the issue started after changing the cartridges, there is a possibility the new cartridges might be defective or were damaged during transit. If possible, try using the old cartridges (if they are still functional) or exchange the new ones at the store to check if that resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
