Hi @HerbS65,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure that the cartridges you have installed are compatible with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e.

Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer using the power button.
  2. Wait for about 60 seconds.
  3. Turn the printer back on.

Reinstall the Cartridges

  1. Open the printer’s cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  2. Remove the affected ink cartridges (those indicated by the message).
  3. Inspect the cartridges for any protective tape that may not have been removed. If present, carefully remove it.
  4. Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their respective color-coded slots until they click into place.

Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts

  1. Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove the ink cartridges.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts in the printer.
  4. Allow the contacts to dry before reinserting the cartridges into the printer.

Check for Software and Firmware Updates

  1. Open the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
  2. Go to the Printer Settings and check for any Firmware Updates. Install any available updates.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download and install the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the HP Support page.
  2. Open the utility and run it to diagnose and fix any issues with your printer.

Verify Network Connection

Ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your computer. Connection issues can sometimes cause communication errors.

I hope this helps.
