HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer

I am getting poor quality print from my black cartridge have run clean cartridges several times but no better. I have had to buy a new one as was not doe a replacement as cartridge still showing half full. I got message from hp to say they cannot monitor a shop bought cartridge what is my best option
