Hi @Karcon-sys_1601

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Inkjet Printer 2501 is having trouble recognizing the black ink cartridge, even though it's an original HP cartridge. The error you're seeing, where the light blinks and the printer works with only the color cartridge inserted, is typically related to either a cartridge issue, a printer connection problem, or sometimes a software/firmware problem.

Here are a series of steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve the black cartridge not recognized issue:

1. Check the Black Cartridge for Issues

  • Ensure the black ink cartridge is seated properly. Remove the black cartridge from the printer and carefully reinstall it. Ensure it's clicked into place firmly.
  • Inspect the cartridge contacts: Sometimes, dirt, ink residue, or other debris can prevent proper communication between the cartridge and the printer. Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer.
    • Do not touch the ink nozzles or the electrical contacts with your fingers, as oils or dirt can interfere with performance.
  • Check the cartridge expiration date: Make sure the cartridge is not expired or defective.

2. Reset the Printer

A reset can often resolve issues with cartridge recognition:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.
  • Try reinstalling the black cartridge and see if the issue persists.

3. Try a Different Black Cartridge

Since you’re using an original HP cartridge, it’s still possible that the specific cartridge might be defective.

  • Try replacing the black cartridge with a new or known working one, if possible.
  • If the printer works with the new cartridge, the issue may have been with the original cartridge.

4. Check for Ink Cartridge Compatibility

Even though you’re using an original HP cartridge, there can still be compatibility issues with the printer model or regional versions of the cartridge. Ensure that the cartridge you are using is specifically compatible with your HP 2501 model. Sometimes, remanufactured or refilled cartridges (even if they are HP branded) might not be fully recognized by the printer.

5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

If the printer is failing to recognize the cartridge due to a software issue or a communication error, updating or reinstalling the printer drivers might help.

  • Visit the HP Support website: HP Printer Support.
  • Enter your printer’s model number (HP 2501) and download the latest drivers and firmware updates for your printer.
  • Install the latest drivers and restart the printer to check if the cartridge is recognized.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
