Cartridges not communicating!!!

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Really unhappy, my inks were running out so went online to get some replacements, ended up buying one from the warehouse that was the recommended replacement and compatible.  Just went to install it and the printer does not like it, and is saying that its not communicating with the printer.  IS HP DOING THIS BECAUSE IT WANTS ME TO ONLY USE HP INKS THAT ARE MORE THAN TWICE THE PRICE OF THE ONE I HAVE??  I now have a brand new ink cartridge that I cant return and a printer that will not work unless I go out and buy expensive HP ink.  

When I bought it, I was told I could use any compatible ink cartridges, and it is still under warranty - can I get a replacement?
