Hi @wintersrich,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure that you are using the correct and compatible cartridges for your HP OfficeJet 8130e printer:

  • Check the printer manual or the cartridge packaging to verify compatibility.
  • The HP OfficeJet 8130e typically uses HP 910 or HP 910XL Ink Cartridges.

Inspect and Reinstall Cartridges

  1. Turn off the Printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Open the Cartridge Access Door: Wait for the carriage to move to the center and become idle.
  3. Remove the Cartridges: Carefully take out each cartridge, ensuring you are handling them by the sides to avoid touching the nozzles or electrical contacts.
  4. Inspect the Cartridges: Check for any protective tape that may still be on the nozzles or electrical contacts and remove it if present.
  5. Reinstall the Cartridges: Reinsert each cartridge into its correct slot and press down gently but firmly until it clicks into place.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

Dirty contacts on the cartridges or in the printer can cause recognition issues:

  1. Turn off the Printer: Unplug the power cord from the printer.
  2. Remove the Cartridges: Take out each cartridge as mentioned earlier.
  3. Clean the Contacts:
    • Use a clean, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
    • Gently wipe the electrical contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  4. Allow the Contacts to Dry: Wait for all components to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges and turning the printer back on.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues:

  1. Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads: HP Support.
  2. Enter Your Printer Model: Type in HP OfficeJet 8130e and select it from the list.
  3. Download Firmware Updates: Follow the instructions to download and install the latest firmware for your printer.

I hope this helps.
