PAY ATTENTION EVERYONE! When I purchased the DeskJet 4158e there was not one single bit of information to tell me that only certain cartridges are required depending on if you're enrolled in the Instant Ink program. Lo and behold, I run out of ink and not enrolled in the program because the cost is not worth the few number of pages I print. I bought both XL tri-color and black cartridges, not realizing they were marked "Instant Ink" and the consequences that come with it. I installed the cartridges and was unable to print. So...about 30 minutes later I realize the "Instant Ink" cartridges won't work unless I'm enrolled in the Instant Ink program. Long story longer, I threw out the cartridges and will be buying ones that are NOT marked and compatible with my printer. Thanks HP, you made my decision to never buy another HP printer again.

Where did you manage to buy Instant ink cartridges?

They should not be available for sale.

Hello,

I don't remember where I bought them. Would HP have sent me the cartridges while under the free trial? Either way, my point was that I was unaware that only certain cartridges worked with an Instant Ink subscription and I can't be the only person in this same situation.

Can you verify what HP cartridges work with printers not enrolled in the Instant Ink program or do I have to buy another non-HP printer?

Thanks.

For devices enrolled in the Instant Ink program user receives Instant ink cartridges and those cartridges can only be used in enrolled printers, and those can be sold because they will not work.

For devices that are not enrolled in the Instant ink program only official store bought ( those are not Instant ink) cartridges will work.

It is not possible to buy Instant ink cartridges in official store, instant ink cartridges are restricted for sale as they are free for instant ink users.
