I tried to print a page and the quality is horrible (no black ink). However, the menu shows that the cartriges are full. I followed all the steps to clean the cartriges, clean the print head and even manually clean the cartriges: no joy.

 

I haven't printed anything in months. Could that be the reason? If so, where should the problem be? On the cartriges (in which case substituting for new ones should fix it) or the print head? 

 

My warranty is expired and fixing the printer can cost more than a new printer.

This seems to be a dry cartridge issue since you have not printed for months

 

You can contact HP Support and replace the cartridge

 

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/ 
2) Select your product type below.
3) Enter the serial of your device. 
4) Select the country from the drop-down. 
5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences. 
6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

I replaced cartridge in my laser jet.  Printed first page.  Terrible. Went to manual for instructions to clean printer for MAC,

You can clean the printhead directly from the printer https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c05538986

 

  1. Load the printer with plain white paper.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe left on the display, and then touch Setup .

  3. Touch Tools, and then touch Clean Cartridges.

    The printer prints a Print Quality Diagnostic report.

  4. Examine the print quality on the Print Quality Diagnostic report.

    • If the print quality is acceptable, touch No. You can stop troubleshooting.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Yes when prompted to perform the next level of cleaning.

    NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.
